GTH gardeners Gateway to Hope Garden Tour Scheduled for June 14-16

The third annual Central Iowa Gateway to Hope Garden Tour is slated for the weekend of June 14 through 16.  Tour proceeds will fund arts camps and Bible schools for Nicaraguan children from the poorest of the poor neighborhoods in Chinandega, where Faith Church of Pella is building a long-term relationship with five area churches. The tour is organized by Friends of Chinandega, a ministry of Faith Church.

The 2013 tour features three gardens in Pella and three country gardens—including Stonypoint, a five-acre garden near Reasnor, Iowa. Stonypoint garden, frequently used as a destination for weddings and reunions, has not been featured in a garden tour since 2006.

New attractions for this year’s tour include a Saturday lunch at the

Stonypoint barn and van transportation to the three country gardens each day of the tour.  Lunch includes a deluxe walking taco, cookie or bar, and drink for

“This year’s tour is especially accessible,” says Carol Van Klompenburg, tour team chair. “In addition to the van transportation,

all three in-town sites are back-yard neighbors. Visitors  can park once  and then enjoy all three gardens.”  The Pella gardens belong to David and Nelda Pealer, 1007 E. 3rd  Street; Jim and Julie Mueller, 1008 E 2nd Street; Glenn and Shirley Borgman; 411 Lincoln.
